The State Primary is Tuesday, September 1, 2026

Vote by Mail for the September 1 Primary

• Applications for Vote by Mail have been sent out.  Please contact the Hingham Town Clerk's Office if you have not received an application or apply at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/MailInRequestWeb/MailInBallot.aspx.

• Applications should be returned ASAP and must be received no later than August 25 at 5:00 PM.  Note, the USPS recommends allowing for 7 delivery days.  

• Early ballots are being sent out starting August 5. Follow the Vote by Mail Instructions and be sure to sign the inner manila envelope. If you are a college student, contact the Hingham Town Clerk's Office for mailing information.

Vote Early In-Person for the September 1 Primary 

Available at Hingham Town Hall as follows:

• Saturday, August 22 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM 

• Monday, August 24 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

• Tuesday, August 25 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM

• Wednesday, August 26 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

• Thursday, August 27 8:00 AM -- 4:30 PM

Voter Registration 

Deadline to Register to VOTE: Saturday, August 22 at 5:00PM (in-person) or online at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR/ until 11:59 PM.

Ballot Colors

New Primary Ballot Colors starting with the September 1 Primary

G.L. c. 53 § 33 requires that primary ballots for each party be of different colors.

Effective this year, the color of ballots shall be:

• Official Democratic Primary Ballot – Blue

• Official Democratic Early/Absentee Primary Ballot – Light Blue

• Official Republican Primary Ballot – Pink

• Official Republican Early/Absentee Primary Ballot – Salmon

• Official State Election Ballot – White

• Official Early/Absentee State Election Ballot – Yellow

  
  

This change reflects voters’ expectations and will help to reduce confusion when ballots are provided to voters.
