Please see Town of Hingham News Announcement Below: Starting July 1, 2024, Town Hall offices will be open to the public during the following times: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM Tuesdays 7:30 AM – 7:00 PM Building Department only: Monday through Thursday opening at 7:00 AM These new hours will offer Hingham residents increased Town Hall availability during the busiest days of the week by extending work hours in the mornings and afternoons Monday through Thursday. Overall, under this schedule, Town Hall offices will be open 40 hours per week, up from the current schedule of 39 hours. Additional hours early in the morning for the Building Department, starting at 7:00 AM, responds to requests from homeowners and building contractors to be available earlier in the work day. Over the past year, the Town of Hingham revamped its website and launched the MyHingham app to streamline processes, making it easier to communicate with and get Town business done remotely and more efficiently.   Residents and local businesses are increasingly taking advantage of convenient online bill pay and online applications, reducing the need to come to Town Hall. Starting July 1, the following Town Hall offices will NOT be open to the public on Fridays: Accounting Assessing Building Center for Active Living (the Friday program will be moved to South Shore Country Club) Community Planning Conservation Health Historic Preservation Human Resources Land Use and Development Retirement Town Administration Town Clerk Treasurer/Collector Veterans’ Services The following Departments will have NO change to their schedules: Fire Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant Hingham Public Library 911 Emergency Dispatch Police, including Animal Control and Harbormaster Public Works, including the Transfer Station Recreation, including classes and summer camp School Administration Sewer South Shore Country Club Weir River Water System The new schedule responds to resident needs and will also enhance the Town’s ability to attract and retain talented employees in a competitive, post-pandemic market. “We anticipate this schedule change will improve our ability to fill vacant positions with qualified staff.  Having experienced and dedicated employees is at the core of our ability to meet the service expectations of the public,” explained Town Administrator Tom Mayo. The Town Administrator is confident that this new schedule will be a win-win for residents and staff. Citizen engagement and voluntarism are at the core of Hingham’s character.  As with our commitment to Open Town Meeting, ours is a community where citizens assume the responsibilities of self-governance by serving on Town boards and committees. The Town of Hingham website is the perfect place to get information on committee service.  Just click on the Quick Link captioned “Committees,” and you will see the many options open to you. A series of interviews for residents who have an interest in serving on a Town board or committee will be held by the Select Board and the Moderator in the weeks ahead.  You can complete a Talent Bank Form on the Town’s website here.  Please submit your Talent Bank Form to the Select Board Office by Friday, May 31, 2024.  The interview dates will be posted on the Town’s website and published in our local papers (tentatively scheduled for early to mid-June in person at Town Hall). Your readiness to give your time and talent to our town is essential to Hingham’s future.  The work is interesting, essential, and rewarding.  Please step up and get involved.

Annual Town Meeting is Wednesday, April 24th at 7 PM, Hingham High School.  Please note the date change due to the Passover holiday observance.  Hingham’s form of government works best when everyone participates.   Hingham’s Open Town Meeting form of government relies on participation from its registered voters to function. Town Meeting is open to all registered voters in town. The proposed warrant articles have been posted on the Town Meeting website here. The last day to register to vote for Town Meeting and the Town Election is Friday, April 12th. If you are not a registered voter and would like to attend Town Meeting as a guest, please contact the Town Clerk in advance to be added to the Guest List.  Guests will be checked in at the main entrance to HHS and escorted to the guest seating section of the meeting. Check-in for Town Meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. ahead of the 7 p.m. meeting start time. The Town Clerk will operate two registration tables, one at the High School main entrance and another at the back right entrance. Parking is available at two High School lots – the front lot and the far lot down Union Street beyond the ball fields. Overflow parking will be available at South Shore Baptist Church at 578 Main Street after the Union Street far lot is full. Message signs will provide additional information on the day of Town Meeting. Shuttle buses will be running to and from the Baptist Church overflow site from 6 p.m. until 30 minutes after Town Meeting ends. Tips: Arrive early Bring your warrant booklet (should arrive in mailboxes the week of April 8th) Large print warrant booklets are available Bring water and snacks Get on HHS wifi (password will be available at check-in) Accessibility is a priority. Handicapped parking is available in the High School front and back parking lots. The Hingham Center for Active Living is providing transportation to mobility impaired residents. A limited number of large print warrant books will be available on request at registration desks. The Town will provide live closed captioning in the gymnasium and auditorium at this meeting. Accessible seating will be spread out across the gymnasium and auditorium. The Annual Candidate Forum was held at the Hingham Public Library in the Whiton Room on Sunday, April 7th. March 14, 2024 Dear HRTC Member: Pursuant to Chp. 52, Sec. 4 of the Mass General Laws, the Hingham Republican Town Committee is holding its reorganization meeting on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 7:00 PM at the South Shore Country Club located at 260 South Street, Hingham, MA. At this meeting we will elect a new chair, vice-chair, treasurer and secretary.  The term of each position is two years.  To better understand the responsibilities of each position, we are providing the following information as outlined in the By-Laws of the Hingham Republican Town Committee: Chairman.  The Chairman of the Hingham RTC shall, in addition to duties required by law, preside at all meetings of the Hingham RTC and of the Executive Committee.  The Chairman shall direct the work of the Hingham RTC, with the advice of the Executive Committee.  The Chairman shall appoint the chairman of each subcommittee, effective upon consent by vote of the Committee Members taken at any duly Called and Noticed meeting.  The Chairman shall serve as a member ex officio of each subcommittee.  The Chairman shall employ all necessary assistance, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee, for the carrying out of the work of the Hingham RTC; shall direct the functioning of the Hingham RTC; and shall Call meetings of the Hingham RTC in accordance with section VI(B) of these By-Laws. Vice Chairman.  The Vice Chairman shall preside at all meetings of the Hingham RTC and Executive Committee in the absence of the Chairman.  The Vice Chairman shall perform all duties and exercise all powers of the Chairman in case of temporary absence or incapacity of the Chairman. Secretary.  The Secretary shall provide Notice to each Committee Member, Member Emeritus, and Associate Member of each duly Called meeting of the Hingham RTC in accordance with section VI(C) of these By-Laws.  The Secretary shall: keep a record of each meeting of the Hingham RTC and of the Executive Committee, including a list of each Committee Member present at each such meeting; and present said record to the next duly Called and Noticed meeting of the Hingham RTC or the Executive Committee, respectively, for amendment and/or approval.  The Secretary shall perform all other duties required by law, assigned by the Chairman, or otherwise provided by these By-Laws, including but not limited to the duties provided in sections II(A), III(B), III(C), III(E), and VIII of these By-Laws. Treasurer.  The Treasurer shall have the custody of all funds belonging to the Hingham RTC, which he shall hold in one or more accounts under the name of the Hingham RTC.  He shall hold said funds in one or more accounts, each of which shall: (1) be maintained under the name of the Hingham RTC; (2) provide periodic duplicate statements to both the Chairman and the Treasurer; and (3) list at least the Chairman and the Treasurer as authorized signers.  The Treasurer shall receive all revenues of the Hingham RTC, shall have joint responsibility with the Chairman for paying pay all disbursements of the Hingham RTC, and shall maintain written records of all transactions until at least the next Organizational Meeting.  The Treasurer shall submit a report to each duly Called and Noticed meeting of the Hingham RTC, and to the Chairman or Executive Committee at any time when either shall so request.  The Treasurer shall qualify for his office by signing and filing Office of Campaign and Political Finance form CPF-101-WTC within ten days after the Treasurer’s election. It began in a little schoolhouse in Ripon, Wisconsin, in 1854. A small group of dedicated abolitionists gathered to fight the expansion of slavery, and they gave birth to a Party dedicated to freedom and equal opportunity.
